As the former General Secretary of the UK’s Processing and Packaging Machinery Association (PPMA), and publisher of Machinery Update, Andrew has been involved with the packaging industry since 1977 when he took over the management and organisation of Packaging Index, a brochure-based information service for buyers and specifiers of machines, containers and materials. This also involved running a series of local exhibitions in regional centres throughout the UK.

Following a spell with Reed Exhbitions (REC) helping to sell and organise Pakex he was asked by several major packaging and processing machinery companies to set up a dedicated machinery and equipment show, the PPMA Show, which led to the foundation of the Processing and Packaging Machinery Association (PPMA).

For the next 20 years Andrew was the General Secretary of the PPMA, working to make the exhibition the leading event in the UK’s packaging calendar and the Association an internationally recognised and respected trade body.

He also launched the association’s highly successful trade magazine. Machinery Update, and acted as its publisher.

He was instrumental in setting up and leading several international organisations for packaging machinery (COPAMA and Europama) and travelled to more than 70 countries promoting UK packaging equipment and a better understanding of the importance of machinery in the supply chain generally.

Throughout his career Andrew has written extensively about the packaging industry and more particularly about machinery and technology issues. Since leaving the PPMA in 2005 he has been a regular contributor to several leading packaging magazines, writing features, overviews, statistical analyses, installation and new product stories. He also attends the major packaging exhibitions to review current trends and developments.

His knowledge of the global packaging marketplace is extensive and he has worked in Europe, America and particularly Asia. He remains in touch with many of the leading personalities in the industry and bases a clear vision of the future development of packaging on an intimate knowledge of the progress of past 35 years.

Andrew is Treasurer of the International Packaging Press Organisation (IPPO).
