IPPO Welcomes New Members Claire Sand and Evelio Mattos
The International Packaging Press Organisation welcomes food packaging expert Claire Sand and newsletter owner and podcast host Evelio Mattos to the group as its newest members. Both have broad experience in packaging, having worked at brand owner and packaging companies before turning their attention to sharing their knowledge through the packaging media.
Claire Sand is a Global Packaging Leader with more than 35 years of food science and packaging experience. She is a regular contributor to Packaging Digest and Food Packaging Science, as well as owner and founder of Packaging Technology and Research LLC and Gazelle Mobile Packaging Inc.
Sand is also an Adjunct Professor at Michigan State University and CalPoly, an IFT Fellow, the Riester-Davis-Brody Lifetime Achievement in Food Packaging Award recipient, a member of numerous Editorial Boards, the author of the Packaging Value Chain, and co-chair of pacfoodwaste.
Prior to her consulting business, Sand previously worked at Total Quality Marketing, Nestlé, General Mills, Kraft Heinz, Safeway, and academia, as well as in basic research, development market research, and marketing in Germany, Colombia, and Thailand.
Sand received her doctorate in Food Science and Nutrition from the University of Minnesota, as well as Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in packaging from Michigan State University.
Evelio Mattos is the founder and on-air host of Packaging Unboxd, a podcast that helps designers understand the nuances of packaging and then implement those lessons in their design process.
Mattos is also currently the Creative Director of Packaging at IDPDirect.com, leading a team of designers and engineers in developing innovative structural packaging designs for luxury brands. Previously, he has been Creative Director for Forma Structural Packaging and VBX Solutions.
His media experience includes being a Content Curator at Packaging Ai, and initially Contributing Editor with The Dieline before serving as Editor in Chief. While with The Dieline, Mattos co-authored a book series “Packaging & Dielines: The Designer’s Book of Packaging Dielines.” He also has been a contributor to Packaging Strategies and Brand Packaging magazines, among others.
