Tetra Pak launches virtual marketplace

Tetra Pak has developed a virtual marketplace for the food and beverage industry to make the purchasing of products faster, more convenient and simpler for producers.

The platform was created by Tetra Pak and e-commerce solutions provider Mirakl. Initially, it will host more than 300,000 spare parts and consumables from Tetra Pak, adding an additional 200,000 products for maintenance, repair and operations from vetted sellers, providing customers with access to a large variety of products.

The marketplace, available 24/7, will host several vendors selling products within safety and security, industrial supplies, cleaning solutions and other key areas for food and beverage production. According to Tetra Pak, the number and variety of products will continue to grow as more vendors join.

Germany is the first country to launch the marketplace. Following this, the platform will expand in selected countries in Europe, and then globally.

“This is a completely new model and way of doing business for our industry,” said Klara Svedberg, vice president of parts and consumables at Tetra Pak. “For the first time we have a digital food and beverage marketplace at our fingertips. This will transform the way we serve our customers by connecting food and beverage manufacturers with leading sellers across the world.”

Svedberg added that by “simplifying and speeding up processes, the virtual marketplace will make purchasing more cost-efficient via a one-stop-shop solution. We invite our customers to take full advantage of this platform and look forward to hearing about their experiences.”

Meanwhile, Phillipe Corrot, chief executive of Mirakl, believes that marketplaces are taking over the world of e-commerce. “It’s about creating a shopping destination where buyers can get everything they need,” he explained. “The food and beverage industry needs a platform that will allow it to catch up with other sectors.”
